My Bridal Shower Favors

favor

Pete and I came up to New York for the holidays ... but it turned out to be more than that. I was so fortunate to be spoiled by my friends and family at a bridal shower.

I was so surprised.

I'll tell you all about it soon, but right now, I just want to tell you about the awesome favors that were given out.

If you remember, Pete and I live in North Carolina but all our families and friends live in New York. Our wedding is going to be in North Carolina so all of our guests will be traveling.

So the favor was ...

a luggage tag ...

... with a personalized back.

My mom said she had seen them in AC Moore and got the idea (although I don't think she brought them there. You can actually buy them here on Amazon).

It was such a cute touch. And that's something I've been stressing during the entire wedding process. You need these little pops of personality to tie your entire wedding together.

Get A Free Catalog From Exclusively Weddings (and get some wedding inspiration)

I love wedding magazines and catalogs. They're such a great way to get wedding ideas that you may never have thought of.

Without wedding magazines, I may not have had the idea to put fans in our welcome bags.

What ideas can you get from magazines? Find out now.

My friend Grace let me know that you can get a free catalog from Exclusively Weddings.

I had never heard of the brand before, so I took a look around the website. Exclusively Weddings sells everything from invitations to toasting flutes to cake servers, plus a bunch of wedding favors..

This catalog will be a huge help when planning the little details -- plus the prices are very competitive, so it might be worth ordering too. I never have ordered from them, though, so I can't comment on the quality at all. If you order from Exclusively Weddings, be sure to let me know.

Create A Unique Wedding Registry At Target #TargetWedding

This is a sponsored post written by me for Target. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Traditionally, most people register at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They scan necessary items, like plates and flatware.

But many couples are living together by the time they get engaged and are registering. They already have glasses and coffee mugs. So you can use your registry to fill your home with other fun items. Your registry doesn't have to be completely serious.

If you choose to make a Target Wedding Registry, you can come up with a registry that is a lot more of a reflection of your personality ... and needs.

There are a bunch of suggestions at the Target Wedding Catalog, but I think top of your list should be thank you cards. I didn't think of this until after we started getting gifts. Thank goodness my friend Nicole had actually gifted us a box of leftover thank you cards from her wedding. They came in reallyhandy.

Target sells 50 packs of Mara Mi cards for only $10.99. That's awesome. There are a ton of designs and styles, so you can definitely find one that fits your style. And trust me. Having them on hand is completely necessary. Even if you just run to Target and buy some now, you will thank me later.

Another item I see as a staple on registries is a doormat. Most people, though, end up picking a very serious looking monogrammed doormat. I honestly think people scan that into their registry because it's basically the only option.

But at Target, you have a ton of options. There are some seasonal, some whimsical, anything to fit your lifestyle. Pete and I actually have two doormats, one for everyday and a second for football season. When they're only $12.99 at Target, you can register for a couple and change them during the year.

If you're thinking you want a more traditional registry, with small appliances, Target has you covered there too. I was comparing prices and they're pretty on par with most other places you would register. Plus, the selection is pretty good as well.

You can register for everything from a Dustbuster to a blender, all your new home essentials.

And of course, towels.

Every registry has towels. Ours has 12 towels total (you need bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths). At Target, you can also register for a coordinating bathmat, which is nice. Your entire bathroom can be pretty and coordinated.

I know, it sounds weird to have a pretty bathroom considering what goes on in there, but I have a plan to make ours a spa bathroom. We registered for bamboo fixtures and green and brown towels. I'm really excited about how it's going to turn out because, in my mind, it's amazing.

That's the thing about registering. You're able to walk through the store and design your new home.

And your new bedroom.

Target has a ton of sheet sets, everything from sheets to comforters. We actually bought our first sheet set at Target and we loved it -- plus we loved the price. Target is really affordable.

When we registered, we were told that people register for three sheet sets, on average. We already have two sheet sets (but one is on its way out), so we ended up registering for two. You will need at least two sheet sets in life. One for the bed and one for when those sheets are in the laundry.

Plus, you might want summer and winter sheets (one flannel, one cotton), so you might honestly want four in your rotation.

But what if you have everything you need? What if you are living together and have your entire home filled with essentials?

Target has so many other items, you can register for stuff for fun. Target sells movies, video games, books, camping gear, work out items, and more. Who is to say you can't scan those onto your registry?

No one. You are absolutely allowed to register for these types of items, although many stores don't carry a wide array of these types of "fun" items. At Target, you have so many items to choose from. Add some fun stuff because goodness knows you need an excuse to take some fun time out for yourself when you're planning a wedding.

But what if you are on the gift giving side? Definitely check out Target. You can pick up something traditional, like sheets or towels, but you can put together a fun, non-traditional gift like a DVD and popcorn.

Let's say you want that non-traditional gift. You can pick up the following: microwave popcorn, DVD, ribbon, wrapping paper, and a card. Wrap the popcorn and a DVD. Tie them with ribbon. Fill out the card with a cute message like, "DVDs can pause. You need a pause too. Take some time for yourself, away from wedding planning, with this fun DVD." Love it.

Keeping Your Gifts Straight (and making those thank you cards easy)

It's beginning to look a lot like we're getting married.

People are being so kind and starting to send us gifts, and we're slowing changing out our "old" things for new "us" things. My random flatware and Pete's random flatware have been cohabiting in a mismatched way for months now, but a new flatware set meant our non-matching service wear went to the donation center.

Little by little, items off our registry are being purchased and our apartment is becoming ours.

We just got a fantastic gift of "our" stuff from my friend Mallory.

She bought us our "spring" kitchen towels, a Scrub Daddy that we've wanted to try since we saw it on Shark Tank, and the owl mug that I've been dreaming of ever since I scanned it onto our registry (which I chatted about here).

I had a Christmas card to mail to Mallory and her husband that I hadn't sealed or sent yet. So I wrote them a thank you note in the Christmas card.

But before I even got that into the mailbox, I saw Mallory online, so I sent her a message to tell her just how excited I was over their generosity (and the fact that she purchased the item that was on the top of my list. Yes, I was that in love with the owl mug ... which was unavailable for purchase last time I looked at our registry. So I was convinced I would never see the mug outside of the one photo I took of it ... and then it showed up at my door).

She gave me more than awesome gifts ... she gave me a great idea.

bridal-shower-gifts

She told me to make sure to save the cards and write the gifts on them. That way, when we sit down to write our thank you cards, we will know exactly what to thank people for.

Our wedding is in June, so I won't always have Christmas cards handy to double as thank you cards so the chance of me immediately writing the thank you note is slim.

When gifts come in one at a time, you feel like you will absolutely remember who gave you what. But with all the other things you have to remember, why even give yourself the potential stress? Write everything down and save yourself the headache.

Pantone Announced It's 2014 Color -- And A Hint About My Bridesmaid Dresses

I was in New York for a week for Thanksgiving and decided it was the best time to go bridesmaid dress shopping. If we didn't go then, I'm not sure we'd ever go.

I wanted eggplant, but the dress I fell in love with didn't come in eggplant. It only came in a light purple version, which is sort of like lilac, and I'm okay with that.

I was online three days later and saw this ...

pantone color of the year

That color up top, the 2014 Pantone color of the year -- Radiant Orchid -- that's the exact color I picked for the bridesmaids dresses.

I had no idea the color was going to be so important in 2014, but now my 2014 wedding looks completely on trend. Oh, the little things.
