Traditionally, most people register at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They scan necessary items, like plates and flatware.
But many couples are living together by the time they get engaged and are registering. They already have glasses and coffee mugs. So you can use your registry to fill your home with other fun items. Your registry doesn't have to be completely serious.
If you choose to make a Target Wedding Registry, you can come up with a registry that is a lot more of a reflection of your personality ... and needs.
There are a bunch of suggestions at the Target Wedding Catalog, but I think top of your list should be thank you cards. I didn't think of this until after we started getting gifts. Thank goodness my friend Nicole had actually gifted us a box of leftover thank you cards from her wedding. They came in reallyhandy.
Target sells 50 packs of Mara Mi cards for only $10.99. That's awesome. There are a ton of designs and styles, so you can definitely find one that fits your style. And trust me. Having them on hand is completely necessary. Even if you just run to Target and buy some now, you will thank me later.
Another item I see as a staple on registries is a doormat. Most people, though, end up picking a very serious looking monogrammed doormat. I honestly think people scan that into their registry because it's basically the only option.
But at Target, you have a ton of options. There are some seasonal, some whimsical, anything to fit your lifestyle. Pete and I actually have two doormats, one for everyday and a second for football season. When they're only $12.99 at Target, you can register for a couple and change them during the year.
If you're thinking you want a more traditional registry, with small appliances, Target has you covered there too. I was comparing prices and they're pretty on par with most other places you would register. Plus, the selection is pretty good as well.
You can register for everything from a Dustbuster to a blender, all your new home essentials.
And of course, towels.
Every registry has towels. Ours has 12 towels total (you need bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths). At Target, you can also register for a coordinating bathmat, which is nice. Your entire bathroom can be pretty and coordinated.
I know, it sounds weird to have a pretty bathroom considering what goes on in there, but I have a plan to make ours a spa bathroom. We registered for bamboo fixtures and green and brown towels. I'm really excited about how it's going to turn out because, in my mind, it's amazing.
That's the thing about registering. You're able to walk through the store and design your new home.
And your new bedroom.
Target has a ton of sheet sets, everything from sheets to comforters. We actually bought our first sheet set at Target and we loved it -- plus we loved the price. Target is really affordable.
When we registered, we were told that people register for three sheet sets, on average. We already have two sheet sets (but one is on its way out), so we ended up registering for two. You will need at least two sheet sets in life. One for the bed and one for when those sheets are in the laundry.
Plus, you might want summer and winter sheets (one flannel, one cotton), so you might honestly want four in your rotation.
But what if you have everything you need? What if you are living together and have your entire home filled with essentials?
Target has so many other items, you can register for stuff for fun. Target sells movies, video games, books, camping gear, work out items, and more. Who is to say you can't scan those onto your registry?
No one. You are absolutely allowed to register for these types of items, although many stores don't carry a wide array of these types of "fun" items. At Target, you have so many items to choose from. Add some fun stuff because goodness knows you need an excuse to take some fun time out for yourself when you're planning a wedding.
But what if you are on the gift giving side? Definitely check out Target. You can pick up something traditional, like sheets or towels, but you can put together a fun, non-traditional gift like a DVD and popcorn.
Let's say you want that non-traditional gift. You can pick up the following: microwave popcorn, DVD, ribbon, wrapping paper, and a card. Wrap the popcorn and a DVD. Tie them with ribbon. Fill out the card with a cute message like, "DVDs can pause. You need a pause too. Take some time for yourself, away from wedding planning, with this fun DVD." Love it.

I think were I doing my registry at Target, it would be little useful things: 3MM command hooks, spare filters for air purifiers, maybe a humidifier -- we both have plenty of dishes, towels, flatware, etc., even furniture and small appliances, but stuff to hang our art with, that would be useful.
